GEAR

We help volunteers in Ukraine afford the equipment they need to stay alive. We do this through two methods: donor matching and crowd funding. Here is how they both work!

DONOR MATCHING

Instead of asking you just to donate money, we match sponsors up directly with volunteers. This has been referred to as Adopt a Personal Gladiator! Donors get in direct contact with the person they are supporting and learn more about what it is like to be in Ukraine. We have matched over 150 volunteers with nearly 400 donors to support them and their teams.

We receive requests for sponsorship from volunteers in Ukraine. About 95% of them come from military volunteers but also from instructors, medics, and some humanitarians. They include requests for vehicles, vehicle repairs, optics, scopes, night vision, gas masks, drones, drone jammers, uniforms, boots, socks, food, etc. We get requests for items costing anywhere from a few dollars to a few thousand.
We vet the applicants to ensure they are deserving of funding. For military volunteers, other volunteers currently fighting in Ukraine contact the applicant. They verify there is a current military contract, they are actively engaged with their unit, and have a good reputation amongst colleagues without discipline issues. They also verify that the requested funding is reasonable and necessary given their role in Ukraine. All vetters have served in Ukraine but are military veterans from different militaries around the world. All applicants are required to have a referral from someone we have previously worked with successfully. A reference must attest to their abilities, work ethic, and character.
If the applicant passes the vetting stage, we match them with a donor or donors to help with their request. Sometimes we match people to help with individual needs and other times for an entire team. Donors can sign up with a $25/month commitment or $100 one time. We put multiple donors together when needed. We then introduce the donors and volunteer together in a Signal chat. They are free to talk to one another and arrange how to transfer necessary funding. Many donors and volunteers develop a great rapport and become friends. It is a great way to get to know who you are helping and learn about what it's like on the ground in Ukraine.

CROWDFUNDING

Some requests we get are urgent or they require the assistance of dozens or hundreds of people to make them happen.
These requests go through the same vetting procedure but we opt to fundraise for them directly through our Paypal account.
These are the options to donate through our Paypal:

The General fund. These donations can be used for any purpose. They cover PAV’s operational expenses of around $200 a month (we are all volunteers and keep expenses to a minimum), and we use it to fulfill urgent needs. We often use this fund to purchase generators, ecoflows, and starlinks which need immediate replacement when damaged or destroyed.
Funds for specific teams. We fundraise directly for multiple teams. The thing all of these teams have in common is they are all doing fantastic work on the ground but are unable to spend the time needed to promote their own work to successfully fundraise. The options available on the Paypal sometimes rotate but have included medic instructors, 3rd Assault Brigade instructors, Tempest Group in 3rd Assault, Chosen Company, 1st Sqaudron Alpha Company of GUR, Rogue Team, Noble Team, Defcon Tribe, Team Phalanx, the Laser Kiwi Boys (a GUR team with many New Zealanders), Droney McDroneface (1st Squadron drone team), and Team Jedi. Funds given to these teams fund equipment they request and sometimes expenses that are hard to fund through any other source such as fuel for vehicles or rent for the team house.
Funds for specific equipment. We fundraise for specific equipment that is life-saving and also often not covered by other funding sources. We currently focus on NVGs, scopes, and electronic warfare (drone jammers) as these are most necessary to keep volunteers alive. Past equipment fundraisers have been for soft armor, junctional tourniquets, and buddy straps.
